Mercedes-Benz W140 S-Class and C140 CL Interior Trim Guide

Rear cabin of a 1990s executive saloon with grey leather and wood trim

The W140 S-Class, built from 1991 to 1998, was engineered with almost no compromise, and its interior reflects that: double glazing, extensive wood, and a great deal of moulded trim. The C140 coupé, sold as the S-Class Coupé and later the CL, shares much of it. Today these cars are increasingly recognised as classics, but their interior trim can be difficult to source, especially in the right colour.

Speaker grilles everywhere

The W140 has speaker grilles in the dashboard and in each door, and they are among the most frequently replaced trim parts. Grilles crack where they clip in and fade in the sun. We list the dashboard speaker cover trim, the door speaker grille and the small door speaker grille, each per side and in several colours.

Ventilation trims

The door-mounted ventilation outlets have trim surrounds that suffer from handling. The front door ventilation nozzle trim cover is listed for each side.

Console and seats

Centre console fixings are hidden by small covers that are lost every time the console comes apart. The console screw cover set restores them. Seat trim is another area of wear; the seat cover panel is available in a range of colours.

Coupé-specific parts

The C140's front seats fold forward to give access to the rear, and the backrest locking mechanism has its own trim. The seat backrest locking rubber cap is specific to the coupé. The rear-view mirror cap cover fits both saloon and coupé.

Colours and matching

W140 interiors were offered in several colours, and many trim parts were produced in each. Choose the colour that matches your surrounding trim, and consider replacing visible pairs together so they age evenly. If you are unsure which colour you have, the suffix on the original part number usually identifies it — see our guide to reading Mercedes-Benz part numbers.
