Range Rover Classic Interior Trim: Switch Panels, Door Trims and LHD/RHD Differences

Classic boxy four-by-four on a muddy country lane in autumn

The original Range Rover, now usually called the Range Rover Classic, was produced from 1970 to 1996. Over that long life its interior moved from utilitarian to genuinely luxurious, and later cars carry a great deal of plastic trim that simply did not exist on early ones. Classics are now valued highly, and owners restoring them find that interior trim is one of the hardest areas to source in good condition.

A long production run means many versions

Because the Classic was built for over a quarter of a century, the same nominal part can exist in several versions. Door trims, switch panels and dashboard components changed through two-door and four-door bodies, and through repeated updates. Land Rover part numbers are the reliable way through this. They are alphanumeric — for example MUC9330 or MXC1306 — and a suffix such as RUN or LUN on the end typically identifies a colour or finish.

Electric window switch panels

The window switch panel sits in the centre of the cabin and is in constant use. Its plastic surround cracks around the switch apertures. Crucially, the panel is different for left- and right-hand-drive cars, and it was made in more than one switch layout. We list the LHD electric window switch panel and the RHD version separately, each in three variants. Count the switches on your existing panel and note their positions before ordering.

Door trims and speaker covers

Door furniture on the Classic includes upper and lower speaker covers and the covers over the grab-handle fixings. These are easily damaged during door-card removal. Look at the door upper speaker cover, the front and rear door speaker fret and the door inner grab handle and screw cover.

The tailgate

The split tailgate is one of the Classic's defining features, and the trim on its lower section takes a beating from loading. The tailgate lower inner handle trim is a common replacement.

Colours

Range Rover Classic interiors came in several colour schemes, and many trim parts were made in each. Where we offer colours, the listing shows them. Faded original trim can make a new part look darker than its neighbours, so consider replacing visible pairs together.
